Toilets at Lake Meadows get a £40,000 Facelift

Toilet improvements at Lake Meadows park are now complete, with the new facilities to be open to the general public next week.

The facilities, located in the southern corner of the park, are used by thousands of visitors to the park each year and were identified as requiring extensive refurbishment by Basildon Council.

This follows a range of other improvements across the park and a new owner of the cafe facilities on site.

Councillor Kevin Blake, cabinet member for leisure and arts at Basildon Council said: “This project will considerably improve toilet facilities in Billericay’s most popular park. The refurbishment work has been an absolutely essential step in fulfilling our ambition of creating a truly first class facility for local people and visitors to enjoy.”

Costing around £40,000 the work follows sustained investment by Basildon Council and its partners of over £300,000 into Lake Meadows. This has seen improvements made to drainage in the park to prevent flooding, improved security fencing within the park, improved and new paths and access routes, an improved and revamped children’s play area, work to tennis courts and the provision of a bouls area.

Councillor Phil Turner, cabinet member for resources said: “The council committed itself to a hugely ambitious and substantial investment to improve Lake Meadows Park for the benefit of our residents. I am extremely pleased that work to improve the public facilities is now complete, however our work on the park continues with a view to ensuring that further investment is made to fund on going improvements now and for the future.

Along with Lake Meadows we are working with key partners to improve parks across the borough, and over the past few months have seen over £150,000 of investment in the Wick Memorial Park, over £160,000 in Victoria Park and of course the £1.5m of major improvements which are being made to Gloucester Park."
