Harriet Nicol - balloons being released

Article by Piers Meyler: Hundreds of balloons have been released at a Billericay park in memory of Harriet Nicol, who was found dead over the weekend.

Tuesday's balloon release at Lake Meadows Park was attended by dozens of mourners in memory of Harriet, who has also been remembered by friends and colleagues at St Martin's School in Brentwood.

A book of condolence has been arranged at the school, surrounded by smiling photographs of the 16-year-old, originally from Billericay, who had been studying for her GCSES.

A fundraising page has been set up to raise money for a teenage suicide awareness charity, in the wake of Harriet's death, who previously attended Mayflower School, in Billericay before switching schools.

Tributes have been pouring in to the teenager who was a member of Fusion Performers Dance and Drama School in Billericay.

Including those paying tribute to Harriet, who died on Sunday, was Charlie Dell, from Wickford.

He wrote on the fundraising page:

"I wasn't the closest friend to Harriet but I knew her well enough to realise what an amazing person she was."
