Article by Paige Ingram: A man has been charged with attempted rape after a teenage girl was followed, grabbed and dragged into a bush.

The alleged incident happened on 8.40pm on Friday, June 28, as the girl walked along Stock Road in Billiericay.

The man following her, grabbed her from behind and pushed her into a bush in what police are describing as a "sexually motivated" attack.

When members of the public saw the girl in distress, the suspect fled the scene and ran across gardens and fields towards the direction of Ingatestone Road.

The teenager, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, bravely fought off her attacker. As the suspect ran off, a white t-shirt was discarded which police are keen to find.

Jamie Sharpe, 43, of Langham Crescent, Billericay, has been charged with attempted rape and will appear at Chelmsford Magistrate's Court tomorrow (Monday, July 1).

Senior investigating officer DCI Daniel Stoten said:

"I would like to speak to the driver of a light coloured Ford Transit van that was travelling along Stock Road in the general direction of Billericay. The driver of this van was flashing his lights to other vehicles to bring their attention to the incident. This van has been described as a plumbers or builders van. I also wish to here from anyone that was driving along Stock road between 8.20 and 9pm and has a dash cam fitted."

Anyone with information is asked to call the Essex Major Crime Team on 101 quoting 42/101995/19 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
