Lake Meadows

Families visiting Lake Meadows in Billericay will be able to continue enjoying the parks popular café with a new lease holder set to take over this month.

The lease to the café expired in December but was extended on a peppercorn rent until May to cover the popular half term and bank holiday period.

Following a tendering process run by the Council’s Parks department the new lease holder is set to take over next month and will run not only the café but concessions in the park such as the mini golf.

We have had a fantastic response to the advert, and have seen a number of other local businesses take the opportunity to put in bids for the tender which as well as the café, includes a number of additional concessions. We are very pleased that the company coming in will provide quality services that offer value for money and understand our ambitions to continue to improve, and invest in Lake Meadows.[/quote]

Councillor Phil Turner, Cabinet Member for Resources added: “This is another exciting development for Lake Meadows Park. As one of the key parks in the borough, the Council are committed to continued investment within it. Over the past few months we have seen £60,000 worth of investment put into improving the parks paths in partnership with Billericay Town Council, have gained £49,000 worth of funding for new play equipment, and are now working to renew and improve the existing play equipment through a partnership with Billericay Round Table who have invested £10,000 into the project. Following this we are also due to start work to improve the toilet facilities within the park. In addition we have seen the opening of a new petanque square last year, a new multi-use sports area created, and prior to that, £30,000 invested in renewing two tennis courts. There has also been an increasingly wide range of activities and events happening throughout the year and this Summer the park plays hosts to concerts by the like of Peter Andre, The Wanted and Alexandra Burke which is fantastic for Billericay.”
