Basildon Council is calling on residents to nominate exceptional young people from across the borough for this year’s Celebration of Youth Awards.
Run by young people in partnership with Basildon Borough Council and Essex Integrated Youth Service, the award ceremony is being held on Wednesday 2 November at the Towngate Theatre to highlight the positive things young people are doing in their local community.
The Council is also looking for young people aged between 10 to 19 years, or up to 25 with additional needs, to perform on the night. Acts can include anything from bands, solo artists and comedians, to dance acts and gymnastic troupes.
The Award Categories
This year there are eight awards for volunteering, improved behaviour, inspirational role model, act of courage/overcoming adversity, achievement in art and culture, achievement in sport and activity, worker recognition, and young carer.
Cllr Andrew Baggott, cabinet member for community, said, “There are many young people in our community who are an inspiration to the people around them. The Celebration of Youth Awards looks to highlight some of excellent work that they do which is often overlooked by the vast majority. I would also encourage local young acts to apply to perform on the evening, as we want an evening that reflects the different skills of our borough’s young people.”
Young people, teachers, youth workers, parents, and anyone who works with young people, can nominate a young person for a category.
Nomination forms can be found at schools, libraries, youth centres and Connexions. More information is available by contacting the Council’s Community Development Officer, Steve Doyle on 01268 294849.
