Oh, What's Occuring?
On Friday 27th May Richard Kell will set off on a Bank Holiday journey with a difference. As a fan of the cult BBC TV show, Gavin And Stacey , Richard will recreate the 210 mile journey from Billericay to Barry Island , Wales travelled by the show’s leading characters.
But rather than sitting in queues of busy motorway traffic, Richard will instead cover the distance on foot, running more than 50 miles a day before finishing on the beach at Barry Island on Bank Holiday Monday (30th May).
Richard is raising funds for Help for Heroes in the process. Having run a number of unique races for the charity in 2010, Richard was keen to think of a novel way to continue the quest in 2011.
Richard has received support from a number of celebrity backers:
“Good luck in The Gavin and Stacey Challenge, running 200miles will be a great achievement" Jessica Ennis
“Good luck and keep up the fantastic work! Lots of Essex love" Tamzin Outhwaite
“I think it’s a fantastic challenge Richard is taking on. Help for Heroes is a great charity and I wish him all the best in his efforts! Crazy or brave I admire his commitment!" Iwan Thomas

I was sat in a traffic jam on the M4 before Christmas, thinking it would be quicker if I got out and walked… so I thought I would! I wanted to come up with an unusual way of raising money for Help for Heroes and it just struck me that I was on the route travelled by Gavin and Stacey so why not follow in their footsteps! The show was one of the funniest comedies for years, I’m not altogether sure the run will be as much fun….it’s an awfully long way! Running 50 odd miles for four consecutive days will be a real test – though to be honest I’m most concerned about my navigation skills and not getting hopelessly lost.[/quote]
