Barleylands Recycling depot

Basildon council chiefs are planning a £385,000 revamp of Barleylands waste and recycling depot, in Billericay, so food waste can instead be dropped off there before being taken in larger trucks to Hadleigh.

Basildon Council’s recycling trucks each have to make at least two journeys a day to Hadleigh to drop off food waste collected across the borough. The developments are part of a series of new contracts the council has entered into with recycling disposal companies in a bid to make savings.

It will also free up the council vehicle to be able to spend more time on collections in the borough.[/quote]

As part of the changes a former recycled glass storage area will be rebuilt at Barleylands so glass waste can be stored on site before being taken to recyclers in larger vehicles. The new depot will require planning permission and, if approved, a contract will be awarded to Indigo Waste Service to dispose of mixed food and garden waste.
