Opening next week, Buttsbury Junior School in Norsey View Drive will officially be classed as an Academy after an outstanding Ofsted inspection.
The change in status will anable the school of 484 pupils to set its own curriculum and take more control over its finances and receive further funding from the Department of Education, rather than Essex County Council.

The parents are very supportive and we didn’t even have to hold a parents’ meeting because they were all happy with it.
This move to academy status has already proved useful as they can now keep a teacher covering for maternity leave for another term and continue to improve their teaching throughout the school.
As a governing body we have taken a long, hard look at what becoming an academy school means for the pupils. We have considered the advantages and disadvantages and listened to the views of people associated with the school. We believe we can continue to enhance and provide an excellent education provision.
On Thursday 5th May the new academy will be officially opened by Billericay and Basildon MP John Baron.
