Local ward Councillors have expressed their disappointment after a children’s roundabout in a popular play area in Billericay was vandalised over the weekend.
The incident occurred at Sun Corner play area, Billericay, sometime during Friday night/Saturday morning (20/21 May). The roundabout in the much used play area was removed from the fittings in the ground and will now have to be repaired at a cost to the Council tax payer.

The Council spends thousands of pounds replacing and repairing the damage caused by vandals in parks and play areas every year, which is money that could be spent better elsewhere. If play facilities continue to be vandalised we will have no other option other than to remove them altogether.[/quote]
He added, "What satisfaction did the vandals get from this destruction? It is utterly disappointing and I hope that anyone who has any information about who may have damaged the roundabout will get in touch with the police.”
Councillor Richard Moore, also a Burstead Ward Councillor, first saw the results of this act of vandalism early on Saturday morning. He also expressed his disappointment that a few people found fun in destroying a facility that brings joy to the young children visiting Sun Corner.
Anyone with information on the damage should get in touch with Essex Police on their non-emergency helpline by calling 0300 333 4444.
