The Brentwood Gazette reported on a woman charged with six counts of fraud faces trial accused of faking cancer and setting up a fundraising campaign to pay for treatment.
Danielle Watson, formerly of Billericay, appeared at Basildon Crown Court today where she pleaded not guilty to defrauding six people between January 2012 and June 2012.
The court heard she is alleged to have falsely claimed she had been suffering from stage four cervical cancer, a condition which has just a 15 per cent survival rate.
The 23-year-old, who now lives in Colchester, was released on unconditional bail to re-appear for a trial at Basildon Crown Court on July 14.
