Fundraisers hold new baby changing unit

Article by the Billericay Gazette: A much-needed baby-changing unit has been delivered to Lake Meadows, thanks to the generosity of pre-schools in Billericay.

More than 50 mothers signed a petition calling for the facility and The Friends of Lake Meadows have now been able to install it in the disabled toilet near the main gate, thanks to a £300 donation.

We get quite a lot of mums with children coming to Lake Meadows. We have got enough people going to the park but the unit will just make it more comfortable and convenient for those with babies.
Funding was headed by Tracy Dix from Step-by-Step Pre-School in Perry Street, and Jenny Greenwood from Sunnymede Pre-School in Mons Avenue.

The donation comes after the final Teddy Bears' Picnic, an event which has been held in the town for more than three decades.
It is sad to see the tradition of the Teddy Bears' Picnic come to an end. But it has been difficult to find helpers to run the event in recent years and life moves on. It seemed a wonderful opportunity to help the many families, who use the park regularly, for all of us in local preschools to fund this much-needed, modern facility, where parents can change their babies and toddlers in clean and dignified surroundings.
Chairman of The Friends of Lake Meadows, Jonny Garlick, added:
We are delighted to have been able to work with the pre-schools and thank them for their generous donation. Once again the parks' team have welcomed this initiative and have helped by installing it quickly. We hope that those who use it will respect it and take care of it for many years to come.
