Article by Billericay Gazette: A Billericay schoolgirl taking the X Factor by storm has been tipped to win the competition by the manager of a bar in which she used to sing.
Lauren Platt wowed Simon, Louis, Cheryl and Mel B with her rendition of Queen Latifah's I Know Where I Have Been during the opening show of the series on Saturday night.
The performance earned the 16-year-old a unanimous yes from the judges and Lauren will now sing in front of an audience of 5,000 at Wembley Arena.
Lauren previously performed closer to home at The Ivory Rooms in Billericay.
Although the competition is at an embryonic stage, the venue's manager, Paul Hatton is already tipping her for greatness, comparing the teenager to superstar songstress Adele.
I think she could win it, I really, really do. It depends how they promote her but I honestly think she has got enough to win it. She has just got such an amazing voice, such a strong, strong voice. Adele is someone that has got a strong voice, she is so powerful and Lauren is exactly the same. She is such a small-framed, young girl, that you can't believe that she has got such a big voice. She just blows me away.
Lauren first performed at The Ivory Rooms' Boom Box event, an acoustic show held every other Tuesday, a year and a half ago. Despite hearing many a talented singer during his work at the venue, Paul noticed straight away that Lauren had something special.
Although she was only young, I said to myself then 'she's going to be a superstar'. I have often heard her singing and said to guests 'you need to come and see this girl because she is phenomenal'. When she first came down she just blew everyone out of the water and we have had some of the X Factor finalists down at our place.
Having tipped the youngster to go all the way in the competition, Paul believes she has the right temperament to succeed, which he believes is down in no small part to her parents.
She's got the voice and she's such a little superstar. I can say that her parents are very, very grounded people and she's always been grounded too. I think she will be fine, she's a very confident girl but she is just a lovely, lovely girl. I got a very good feeling about her.
It seems it is not just Paul who thinks the future is bright for Lauren. Following her audition, music mogul Simon Cowell was quick to heap praise on the young singer.
Lauren, I think we may have found someone special with you. I'm going to remember this name, Lauren Platt. One hundred per cent yes.
Despite her age, Lauren herself feels the time is right to enter the competition.
I feel ready for it. I know I'm still young and a lot of people will say I've just done my GCSEs and I'm only 16, but there isn't anything I'd say is more important than this audition.
