Artilce by Billericay Gazette: A 31 year old man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly attacking a 17-year-old girl with a screwdriver in Billericay.
Ricky Crosher, of New London Road, Chelmsford, appeared in the dock at Basildon Magistrates Court last Thursday.
He is also charged with possession of an offensive weapon – namely a screwdriver – and theft from a shop. The attempted murder charge follows an incident on November 4 at around 11.30pm.
Police officers, including a dog unit, were called to an address following reports that a girl, who cannot be identified, was injured. The police helicopter was scrambled to the scene at 11.45pm and Crosher was arrested at 1am, initially on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. Paramedics rushed the injured girl to Basildon Hospital, where she was treated for head and back wounds.
Residents living close to where the alleged attack took place said fireworks being let off in the area meant it is likely that no one heard the disturbance.
Following the short court appearance, Crosher was remanded in custody to appear at Basildon Crown Court on February 5 next year, for a plea and case management hearing.
