Article by Joe Sturdy: A thief is being sought by police after he stole over £100 from an elderly person’s bag in a distraction burglary near Billericay.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident, which happened on Tuesday, December 30.

The suspect, described as a white man in his 30s, came to the door of the person’s home at Small Gains Lane in Stock and said he was a police officer and had to search the house.

The man then left the victim’s house after taking £100 in cash from their bag.

Also on the same day, between 2 – 2.30pm, a man with the same description entered a property on Short Lane in Ramsden Heath through an unlocked door and demanded money – but left empty-handed.

Police are keen to speak to anybody who witnessed suspicious activity in the area at the time.
