Article by The Echo: Bomb disposal experts have been called to Basildon Council's Barleylands depot to detonate a device found by a metal detecting enthusiasts.
It is understood the device was found by a Laindon man while hunting artefacts in Benfleet yesterday.
It is thought he took the device home with him, before alerting police to his discovery.
Officers then moved the device to a secure location at Basildon Council's Barleylands depot where it was put under guard last night.
A bomb disposal team was called in this morning to blow up the device.
A row of houses near the scene are said to have been evacuated.
