Proud staff at a pre-school in Billericay are celebrating Ofsted success this week.
Noah's Ark Pre-School, in Mill Hill Drive, was graded 'good' across all four main categories during an inspection in December, an improvement on the previous 'requires improvement' rating.
Manager Theresa Bay, 53, praised the efforts of her staff and the teaching methods used at the pre-school, which has 39 children enrolled.
The result of the inspection was great. I am very proud of all the staff here. We have managed to focus on each child and we have been able to give them an individual education plan. It gives us the opportunity to see what stage each child is at and what they need to do to progress.
The pre-school, which caters for youngsters aged between zero and five, only just missed out on the highest grade – 'outstanding' – and Theresa hopes improvements can continue to be made.
The only reason we didn't get outstanding was because the children couldn't go outside on the day. We do have large outside areas and grass but it was cloudy and raining and there was a lot of mud at the time. The report also said we do not have enough displays of diversity. Nothing outside is covered so that is the next thing to do. We want to raise more money for new buildings so we have the chance to separate the older children from the younger ones.
Inspector Jenny Forbes described staff at the pre-school as "kind and affectionate".
Staff ensure that children settle well and feel safe and secure in the pre-school. They are good role models for children. They make sure that children develop close attachments to their key persons and other staff and this supports their personal, social and emotional development well. Children's behaviour is good in the pre-school because staff have secure ground rules in place and they use frequent praise.
Theresa, a mother-of-three from Billericay, has been the manager since the pre-school opened and is already looking to the future.
The manager supports the staff well and monitors their practice. She monitors the effectiveness of the children's activities and staff planning. The manager spends time observing staff and children to ensure that individual children are making good progress in their learning.
