Lorry drivers will be forced to take a 20 mile diversion route through Billericay and Wickford for five nights during A12 repair works.
The northbound carriageway will be shut between Mountnessing to Chelmsford from tomorrow overnight from 9.30pm until 5am, with the resurfacing works finishing on Monday.
Cars will be diverted off the A12 at the Mountnessing roundabout and along Roman Road into Ingatestone. They will re-join the A12 at Junction 15, Three Mile Hill.
But lorry drivers will need to follow an alternative diversion route due to a weight restriction.
HGVs will be diverted off at the Mountnessing roundabout before heading into Hutton.
They will then follow Rayleigh Road through Hutton, going as far as Sun Corner in Billericay, where they will take the Southend Road towards Crays Hill.
Drivers will continue along London Road into Wickford, where they will join the A130 near Runwell, which will lead them to the A12 at Junction 17, Howe Green.
Alan Ball, a member of the Wickford Action Group, said the huge diversion route was “concerning”.
It seems a long way round for the lorries to go. Sun Corner in Billericay is a busy junction and then Wickford is busy too. It is quite a concern. And we are talking about the Harwich lorries here.
