Article by Guy Bell: Billericay High Street is set to welcome a brand new store to its current crop of shops as the vacant spot left by the departure of Lamps is filled.
The family favourite closed its doors for its final day of trading last month and no sooner had the owners packed their bags, new owners and a new store will give shoppers something new to look at.
The people of Billericay will have no excuse for belated birthday wishes as the Card Factory announced it will move into the spot next to WH Smith.
Billericay has been hit by a number of shop closures in the last two years amid issues surrounding rents and parking.
Lamps joins a list of shops including Retail Therapy, the Cook Shop and the Hamelin Trust Charity shop in closing down.
But Basildon Council Leader Phil Turner revealed to the Gazette last month he is looking into the possibility of buying shops for a better rental rate.
An opening date for the Card Factory has not yet been announced.
