Buttsbury pre-school cut the cake

Article by Brentwood Gazette: A pre-school hosted a tea party for pupils, parents and teachers – both past and present – to mark its 40th anniversary.

Buttsbury Pre-School, in Perry Street, Billericay, has been serving the community since it was established by parents in 1975.

It has developed a reputation for providing a high standard of care for children and at its last Ofsted inspection in 2012 was graded outstanding.

It has grown and relocated to a purpose-built setting in the grounds of Buttsbury Infant School and now accommodates over 100 families, employs 19 staff and a committee of parents.

Business manager, Julie Crosby, said: "We held a tea party on Saturday afternoon to celebrate an enormous milestone – reaching 40 years of care and education.

"In the week leading up to the party the children created crowns, hats and bunting to decorate the pre-school and help with the celebrations.

"Our families were very generous in donating cakes for the event.

"On the day, the group's original co-founder, Gill Rolfe, attended and assisted in cutting the Buttsbury Bear 40 cake.

"It was a very special day for all of us and we look forward to celebrating our next milestone."
