Supporters of Billericay Community Cinema

Article by Christine Dawson: Ghostbusters will kick off Billericay's big screen adventure, as the town's first community cinema prepares to roll out the red carpet at the town library.

The film fest begins with the first screening on Thursday, October 15, and will give movie-lovers a cheaper and closer alternative to Basildon.

Emma Neppl, along with Adam Adshead and a team of 40 volunteers, took on board suggestions from the public of a huge screen and projector.

We've now got our own popcorn machine and we'll be selling alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. You'll be able to buy Billericay Brewing Company beers. We're trying to keep it local where possible. People will always go to the big cinemas if they want to see the latest blockbusters but here you get extra – you get a social element and community involvement.
Since the concept was unveiled in March the BillericayCine group has raised the money needed for equipment and is looking forward to showing films from various eras.

A trial run of Men In Black was shown on a three-metre screen just two weeks ago, as the tickets go on sale for next week's Ghostbusters and Paddington Bear, both on October 25.

Christmas will be fun. We'll be showing Elf and It's A Wonderful Life at Christmas and it will be a great opportunity for carol singers, mince pies and making it festive.
Sunday, September 13, was the first day of testing before the grand unveiling of a project that has been in the pipeline for a number of months.

Adam Adshead, an IT manager and cinema enthusiast, is determined to take advantage of a strong community spirit.

The library was quickly transformed into a cinema and the sound of the Ghostbusters theme tune brought out the tingle factor.
BillericayCine has amassed more than 800 likes on its Facebook page and will show two films each week, with a dedicated family screening on a Sunday.
