Article by Piers Meyler: A large retirement complex is being planned for the centre of Billericay to tackle "rising demand" in the town.
Retirement housebuilder Churchill Retirement Livin is preparing a planning application for a new retirement living development in Billericay on land on the eastern side of Laindon Road, near to The Billericay School, currently occupied by a large detached house.
The new Churchill development will provide up to 32 one-and-two-bedroom apartments for the over 60s.
As with all Churchill developments, owners will have the benefits of safety, security and peace of mind, with a lodge manager, 24-hour careline, owners' lounge and guest suite.
Access will continue to be provided from Laindon Road and residents' parking will be provided on site.
Provision will also be made for separate pedestrian access and secure parking for mobility scooters.
Andrew Burgess, planning director of Churchill Retirement Living said:
"There is a real need for private retirement housing in Billericay and our proposed development will go some way to increasing access to this type of housing for local residents. By meeting this rising demand, we can allow older people to downsize and free up under occupied houses in the local area for families. As well as meeting the need for high-quality retirement apartments, the development will bring benefits to the local economy. Owners will be within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants and other amenities, helping to boost local businesses."
Churchill also says the development will benefits town centre shops and will reduces the need of cars being so close to the town centre.
Churchill says it will secure a financial contribution towards affordable housing.
