Christmas tree

Basildon Borough residents can dispose of their Christmas tree and do their bit to help the environment by recycling it for free.

Anyone with a real Christmas tree can put it out with their green bin (food and garden waste) collection next week.

Basildon Council will then collect the tree to be composted.

Tree collections will take place on revised green bin collection dates between 3 and 7 January.

Residents are asked to remove all decorations, as well as the pot or stand, and to leave the tree in the same place you normally leave your green bin to be collected by 7.30am.

Trees with trunks bigger than four inches in diameter will not be accepted for collection.

If you have a larger tree, please call the council’s Customer Service Centre on 01268 533333 for advice.

Alternatively, residents can dispose of their tree by taking it to either Barleylands Recycling Centre or Pitsea Tip.
