Article by Piers Meyler: Firefighters had to rush to Billericay to free a schoolboy who became trapped on a roof after climbing up a drainpipe.
Fire engines were spotted in Radford Way, Billericay at around 6.30pm this evening (Friday, May 5), after witnesses reported seeing a boy stuck on the roof of a building by the station.
A shopkeeper nearby, who asked not to be named, said the boy was with a group of friends when he climbed up a drainpipe on the front of the building. When on the roof, however, he became stuck.
The shopkeeper said;
"After he got up there, the drainpipe became loose and he couldn't get back down. The fire brigade had to help him get down. They eventually managed to open a door on to the roof and he came down that way. He had been trying to find a way down but couldn't. I have been here 33 years and have never seen anything like this."
