Billericay Striders 25th Anniversary 10K Road Race back with a vengeance

Billericay Striders 10k ladies race winners

Billericay Striders 10K Road Race was back with a vengeance and lots of smiles for its 25th anniversary today after a covid-imposed haitus in 2020 (nervous running club committees are drawing on organisational muscle memory after having to mothball all their usual events last year!)

Luckily, this friendly and popular race is still a hit with runners and sold out in an incredible 7 days. 2021 year saw a cut-down, covid-friendly version with the presentation held outside for the first time but unfortunately meant the club couldn't provide the usual refreshments, shop or massage.

Rce organisers said:

Running conditions were picture perfect: bright and chilly with very little wind. Race numbers were slightly down on the day, a theme many clubs are hearing right now. Runners are understandably still grappling with the well-documented and ongoing challenges of the covid pandemic.

Race report

  • First place in the men’s race went to Chemsford AC's Ben Felton, who ran the race in 32:55 and earned himself £100 and a special Striders' Salver. In second place was Shane Boxall of Southend on Sea and in third James Rygate.
  • The women’s race saw a new winner this year - Thurrock Harriers' Kathryn Spring, who also scooped the V35 award. Consistent achiever Eleanor Johnson came second for the second time and third place went to Leigh on Sea's Stephanie Migliorini.
  • The Male Youth Award for young runners under 21 years old was won by James Ferrant (40:53) and the Female award was won by Jemma Ager (51:28).
  • The Women’s Team Award went to Leigh-On-Sea Striders and the Men’s to Thurrock Harriers. Both teams retained the team titles from 2019.
  • The club has already been overwhelmed with messages of thanks and compliments on social media for the excellent organisation and the support given throughout by the marshals.
  • The club would like to thank its long-term sponsors Ground Control and Fisher Jones Greenwood. The club charity this year is the Forget Me Not Cafe, which supports those living with dementia and their carers.
