Article by Louise Lazell: One part of Essex is virtually Covid-free after a massive drop in cases in the last week.

The ward of Billericay Queen's Park has recorded fewer than three cases of coronavirus in the seven days up to February 2.

The exact number is not given for areas of the country where there are fewer than three cases - meaning it could be just one or two cases in total.

This is a massive difference compared to the week previously, ending January 26, where Billericay Queen's Park had a rolling rate of 284.9 cases per 100,000 people - after recording 21 cases in those seven days.

As of today's statistics (February 8), this area of Billericay is the only one which has recorded fewer than three cases in the past week.

Elsewhere, Rayleigh South West has also seen a considerable reduction in cases with only 4 recorded in the week up to February 2.

It is the only area now in the lightest green on the government's Covid-19 map, where the darker the colour, the higher the infection rate.

This gives Rayleigh South West an infection rate of 44.8 cases per 100,000 people - a hugely positive reflection of lockdown's impact.
